Rocky Fork Retreat

This California contemporary turned European Cottage was a classic rehab of a twenty year old existing home on a prime site overlooking Rocky Fork Creek in Jefferson Township. Uninhabited for two years, the home needed updated, and Sandy and her husband wanted a country home. With the help of Sullivan Bruck the exterior was transformed with a new entry facade including stone, a new carved wooden door, and divided light windows replacing the walls of sliding glass. A kitchen dormer was added as well as a new second story window allowing morning sun into the open foyer. The most dramatic change: cutting back the roof overhang at the back family room and situating upper windows to the family room that was previously only blank wall.

The interior space plan remained the same with only a few minor wall changes. A doorway opening was enlarged in the den-study to allow one spacious room, and a wall between the butler's pantry and the kitchen was eliminated. The diagonal hardwood floors, the stone entry floor, the family room wood ceiling, the stucco interior walls, and the enormous stone fireplace were left untouched. But, every door, window, molding, cabinet, plumbing fixture, lighting and appliance was replaced. Crown molding was added wherever possible and the kitchen was reconfigured

Warm reds were chosen for many rooms and accented with Oriental rugs and collections of antiques Woodwork was glazed a mellow tone as well as the kitchen cabinets and the previously plain white stucco walls. Drapery were used sparingly to allow views of the wooded acreage and Rocky Fork Creek. Lighting fixtures were selected to further enhance the country feel. With one teenage daughter at the time, one bedroom area became a private suite with its own bath and a walk in closet. The colors were bright and lively as were the fabrics and patterns selected. The lower level was redecorated with a riding theme for many casual gatherings.
